Paul Glass

Hello, my name is Paul Glass. I'm married to Janet and I am minister at Cranleigh and West Horsley Methodist Churches and St. Mary’s the shared Anglican Methodist Church in Guildford town centre. I’m also Chaplain to and Trustee of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.

I was born and raised in Leatherhead and first became part of the Methodist Church by becoming involved in the Sunday Night Youth Fellowship there. Moving to Leeds University to read English and History Janet and I met in Meth Soc and my first job was as pastoral assistant at Elm Hall Drive in Liverpool working with the University Chaplaincy.

I trained for the ministry at Wesley House in Cambridge and served as probationer minister in the South Leeds Circuit at Hunslet and Middleton. We then moved to Ilkley (Addingham, Ben Rhydding and Beamsley) before being asked to consider the school chaplaincy at Ashville College in Harrogate. After 8 years there we moved to Wakefield where I was Superintendent of the Circuit. We moved to Guildford from Canterbury where I had been school chaplain at Kent College.

I enjoy writing material for worship (especially drama) and have had three books published and currently publish a weekly meditation based on the lectionary readings for each week which goes up on YouTube and has a circulation list of some 200. Janet and I also have a shared interest in development issues and have spent time in Malawi, Tanzania and Cameroon (with Janet also visiting Ghana and Botswana).

Over the years I have been involved in Methodist work with young people at a national level having been Pastoral Visitor to the Methodist Schools group and previously head of counselling for MAYC London Weekend. I believe strongly in a ministry of encouragement and that is where I feel my gifts are most helpful.

I serve the Circuit in a half time capacity – my fixed rest day is Monday and other days vary a little week by week.
