On Sunday 20th May, Methodist Central Hall will be hosting a special Beacon event to celebrate Pentecost as part of Thy Kingdom Come – an international, ecumenical prayer movement which invites Christians worldwide to pray for more people to come to faith between Ascension and Pentecost.
Organised by the Methodist Church of Great Britain, the family-friendly service will be an evening of celebration, prayer and worship featuring contributions from Archbishop Justin Welby, Reverend Gareth Powell (Secretary of the Methodist Conference), Reverend Loraine Mellor (President of the Methodist Conference) and Pastor Agu Irukwu (Senior Pastor at Jesus House & Chair of RCCG U.K).
Christian music artist, Pete James who wrote the song 'Your Kingdom Come' for this year's Thy Kingdom Come, will be worship leading on the night alongside the Jesus House Choir.
Christians, in London and the South East, are being encouraged to come along to the free ticketed event.
Reverend Tony Miles, Acting Superintendent of Methodist Central Hall Westminster said, 'We are delighted to be hosting this ecumenical event. It seems highly appropriate that Christians gather together in one place at Pentecost and wait expectantly in prayer together.'
Now in its third year, Thy Kingdom Come started out as a simple invitation to pray from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 2016 but has since blossomed into a global movement bringing together hundreds of thousands of Christians from across the globe during this period.
In 2017 alone, more than 85 countries – ranging from Canada to Australia, South Sudan to Japan – took part and it is hoped that this year, even greater numbers of individuals, families and churches will be involved.
The Methodist Central Hall Beacon event is one of just a handful of Beacon events happening across the UK. It is expected hundreds / thousands of churches will be host events in honour of Thy Kingdom Come over the 11 days.
