Claire Potter

Hello. My name is Claire Potter and I am the Superintendent Minister of the Wey Valley Circuit. I have pastoral charge of Cranleigh Methodist Church and Guildford Methodist Church, at St.Mary's.

I am also the Methodist Chaplain at Surrey University.

I arrived in the Guildford circuit in September 2014 having trained for ministry in Cambridge, where I began research into the religion and identity of Jamaicans arriving in Britain in the 1950s and 1960s. I was ordained in 2002 and have served in the Hull West Circuit, the Wandle Valley Circuit (South London), and most recently I was the manager of Epworth Old Rectory, the childhood home of John and Charles Wesley.

I enjoy the privilege of pastoral ministry. Unusually, I find myself as minister of a church (Cranleigh) where I was once a child in the Sunday School, and another (Trinity, Woking) where I was a Lay Worker in my first full-time job.

I am married to John and I enjoy the company of good friends, playing the cello and singing in small chamber groups, and exploring the countryside on foot or by bicycle.
